Single-Character Limit for Overwatch Coming to Quick Play

While at the Overwatch panel at BlizzCon 2016, Blizzard announced that the online multiplayer shooter’s Quick Play mode will have a single-hero limit.

The BlizzCon event saw the announcement of a few Overwatch related news, with the most notable being the long awaited reveal of Sombra. A good portion of the attention was focused on Blizzard’s mysterious new character, and the developer has announced a few other changes that will come to its popular online multiplayer shooter, including a small yet significant change to the game’s non competitive Quick Play mode.

Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan announced at BlizzCon that Blizzard will introduce a single-character limit to its Quick Play mode. Given that the single-character limit is a big distinguishing factor between the Competitive and Quick Play modes, the new change may not be welcome to any player who wants a casual lighthearted game, opposed to the intense skill ranking games that can be found in Competitive play. Casual players although, will be pleased to know that there will be a new game mode that aims to balance the new Quick Play hero limit, and allow for more lighthearted troll games.

Arcade Mode will be the mode that will be responsible for combining fun and casual play, and it will feature a few game types such as:

-Elimination, which will be a 3v3 best of five fight.

-Mystery Duel: 1v1 best of five between a player and a random opponent.

-No Limits: Quick Play before the update.

-All Brawls: a playlist for the older and upcoming Brawls.

-Mystery Heroes: 6v6 brawl with randomly selected heroes.

The Arcade Mode will function as an answer to fan feedback of how the lack of reward in playing isn’t worth it. Players will earn up to three loot per week, while the Brawl Mode still exists but as Total Mayhem.

These new modes demonstrate how Blizzard tries to keep its online multiplayer shooter fresh with content, and this effort has played a part in Overwatch becoming Blizzard’s title to hit 20 million players the fastest.
