A new teaser trailer has been released for Resident Evil 7, revealing the release date for the third playable demo ‘Resident Evil’ which will come out in December.
The latest video is the tenth and last of Resident Evil 7’s series of short videos that Capcom was releasing since the game was revealed. This teaser is brief and cryptic just as the others, revisiting the tune that was played during the E3 2016 trailer for Resident Evil 7 ‘Go Tell Aunt Rhody’. The song in this video is hear only in the form of a hum, as the protagonist approaches a woman in a wheelchair. The woman in a wheelchair stops humming and slowly turns her head to look at the player before the teaser cuts to an announcement revealing that the new demo will be released in December.
The demo is referred to as Tape 3 ‘Resident Evil’, but Capcom only announced the release month, not the exact date. The first demo, ‘The Beginning Hour’ didn’t contain any gameplay from the actual game, but as Resident Evil 7 approaches to its release date, chances are that Capcom will take their given opportunity and reveal more about what will happen during the actual game. It remains unclear if this teaser, or any of the other teasers before it contain content taken from the demo, but players can expect that the demo will contain content that is somewhat similar to the theme of the game.
Capcom is confident that its viral marketing techniques are going to pay off. They estimate that Resident Evil 7 will sell around 4 million copies at launch. They previously believed that Resident Evil 6 will reach around 7 million copies sold, but it under-performed and didn’t fulfill Capcom’s predictions. Resident Evil 5 did somehow manage to sell 5.8 million copies, but it took over 2 years to reach 5.8 million, and this was somewhat due to the game’s excessive emphasis on combat and really poor AI which created a frustrating single player experience.
There are a lot of fans that still question how the cannibalistic Baker family is tied to previous Resident Evil games, and there is still no word on this topic from the developers. With only months until it releases, maybe this demo will reveal something more of Resident Evil 7’s story.
