Blizzard May Introduce Overwatch Trial Soon

Overwatch developer Blizzard is looking to introduce a free trial for its successful team-based FPS.

Throughout ChinaJoy 2016, which is possibly the largest gaming and digital entertainment in the country, Li Riqiang, the president of NetEase discussed Overwatch, and talked about his company’s partnership with the game’s developer Blizzard. During the conference, Li eventually brought up the studio’s plans to launch a trial for Overwatch sometime in the near future.

As stated by Li, the plans for a free Overwatch trial haven’t been set yet, but it’s an idea Blizzard is thinking about in order to expand the first-person shooter’s fan base. With the game’s current popularity, as it reached more than 7 million players in its first week alone, if the developer decides to introduce a demo, Overwatch might see its community grow exponentially.

For those unfamiliar with NetEase, it’s Blizzard’s Chinese partner and the publisher of Overwatch in the country, so for Li to mention a free trial as being a possibility, it will most likely come to fruition soon, especially with the time the companies are currently dedicating to figure out how it could work. Sadly though, no exact date was given as to when fans can expect this demo to make its way into the market.

Even though fans have favored Overwatch and the game received lots of positive reviews after its release, one point of disagreement held among critics and regular players alike is that the game’s price was set too high by Blizzard upon launch, and many considered its day one content to be too modest for an initial $60 purchase. Nevertheless, the development team has achieved to stay on top of the title’s continuous bugs by quickly repairing them with patches and improving ranked play along the way, which will hopefully be reflected in the trial if it’s ever going to be released.

Overwatch is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
