No New Burnout Games Are Being Developed, Burnout Paradise Coming to Xbox One

Criterion Games confirmed on Twitter that there are no further Burnout games in development for current-gen consoles, but Burnout Paradise might make its way to Xbox One.

The Burnout series have always earned strong reviews and sales, but despite that, there hasn’t been any word on the franchise for years. Instead of focusing on Burnout, EA has had series developer Criterion Games to work mostly on games from other studios, such as Need for Speed: Rivals and Battlefield Hardline.

It’s safe to assume that many fans would like to see Criterion use its potential to create new Burnout games for current-generation consoles, but according to Criterion, that’s not going to happen anytime soon.

Actually, there aren’t any new Burnout games in development at all. Criterion stated that it’s too busy to work on new projects and doesn’t have the time to go back to its classic franchise. There aren’t even plans to create a Burnout HD collection at the moment either, but that doesn’t mean that all current-gen console owners can miss out on Burnout.

It seems that Criterion games is working with Microsoft to make Burnout Paradise backward compatible and bring it to Xbox One. The studio has originally said this a year ago, but no word has been heard since. Right now, it’s strange that Burnout Paradise hasn’t made its way yet to the Xbox One backward compatibility lineup, but with games getting constantly added to the service, there may be an announcement real soon.

The idea to make Burnout Paradise available to play on Xbox One is certainly a step in the right direction, but lots of fans hope to see other games in the series be made available for current-gen consoles as well. Criterion insists that isn’t happening, but this was stated in a time when EA didn’t have any interests in remasters. Not while ago, EA suggested that the company is looking into remastering its most popular games, so it won’t be a surprise to see Burnout remasters being considered, at the very least.

No Burnout games are actively developed at this time.
