An extended Dishonored 2 trailer that features Emily’s ‘Low Chaos’ playthrough of the Clockwork Mansion level released, in equivalent to yesterday’s ‘High Chaos’ trailer.
Low Chaos is the stealthier approach to Dishonored 2, though it can definitely be violent as well – just not so extreme in its violence. The 7 minute trailer focuses on Emily sneaking from shadow to shadow, stealing valuable items like keys and document, and concealing her disposed of enemies in places that are difficult to locate. And not only that, the Low Chaos playthrough allows Emily to completely avoid combat with the clockwork guardians that were so troublesome during the high chaos playthrough.
What’s really interesting about the Low Chaos trailer, with respect to the High Chaos trailer, is how the two paths separate almost entirely. Emily, in pursuit of stealth, spents most of her time climbing through windows and hiding behind the walls. Even the goals of the two missions seem different altogether, or maybe the Low Chaos option just offers opportunities. In Low Chaos Emily is capable of saving a friend from being imprisoned, while High Chaos goes straight for the kill – very divergent paths.
Arkane has been very busy with conveying the variety of play styles found within Dishonored 2. High Chaos and Low Chaos are just two of the bigger ways in which players will be able to have drastically different experiences within the game. Another big decision will of course be whether players decide to play as Emily or as Corvo. Even that doesn’t cover the range of options within Dishonred 2, however. For instance, the devs have indicated that players can deny the gift of the Outsider.
The test of Dishonored 2 is going to be in whether or not getting all of these divergent paths harms to overall experience. Will a one single playthrough as Emily or Corvo without having any knowledge of the story of other character still be rewarding? Will players feel the same kind of closure? Or are they going to be forced to continue playing as the other character, and in the opposite Chaos?
Dishonored 2 will launch on November 11 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
