Dishonored 2 Day One Patch File Size Revealed

Although Dishonored 2 isn’t available technically, early fan reports suggest that the game does have a day one patch and it’s approximately 9GB for both consoles.

Apart from waiting for Dishonored 2 to install, players will have to ready themselves for another large download once the initial install finishes. As stated by users on Reddit, PlayStation 4 players will also need to install a 9.1GB day one patch in order to start playing. Xbox One players find themselves in the same situation as they will need to download a quite similar 9GB update as well. Luckily for digital players, the game’s pre-load already includes the patch so it should be rather smooth sailing for players who decided to go that route instead.

Even though no official info has been released by Arkane or Bethesda regarding what the update contains, reports from players surfaced that the post-update game features better texture streaming, improved shadow quality, audio mixing, frame-rate performance, and reload times. What’s more, a number of bugs were also taken care of and a mid-mission stats screen and saved game screenshot preview were also added. In general, this sounds like an update that players will want to wait the additional time to download in order to have the best possible experience with Dishonored 2.

Patches on day one are nothing new in this console generation, but releasing a larger than expected update appears to be a growing trend these days. Not long ago, a similar situation arose with Microsoft exclusive, Gears of War 4, where gamers quickly discovered that another massive day one update was required as well. While the 11GB update undoubtedly improved the overall experience, it still turned out to be an inconvenience for those who purchased a physical copy and wanted to jump in to the experience right away. It will be interesting to see if this growing trend pushes more and more gamers to go digital, where the ability to preload reduces most of these issues.

Dishonored 2 will launch on November 11, 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
