Pokemon GO finally has a different way of earning candy for every player’s favorite creature. It’s in the form of a new buddy system that will release in today’s update.
Last week, Niantic revealed their plans to add a new ‘buddy system’ to their popular title, Pokemon GO, somewhere in the near future. Now it seems the future is here, judging by the simple fact that the update that brings the feature to mobile devices began to roll out around the world.
Here is an explanation on what the buddy system is, for anyone who hasn’t heard. The buddy system is designed as a way to have players gather candy for their favorite Pokemon without having to track them down and capture them again. With choosing a buddy Pokemon to accompany the Pokemon GO trainer, players can earn that Pokemon candy, just by walking around. Some creatures only need 1KM to earn a candy, while others may require trainers to walk up to 3KM in order to earn their rewards.
It was expected for more rare creatures to require more walking than the common ones do, but this feature should help trainers in rural areas as well as assisting all players in evolving their starter Pokemon, so it shouldn’t be a problem. Recent datamining has revealed that legendary Pokemon such as Mew, Mewtwo, Moltres, Articuno and Zapdos will be assigned to a 3KM distance, which makes sense given that there aren’t multiple legendary Pokemon that every player can catch.
There was a supposed fix for a common issue that saw eggs hatching with no animation which means that players should no longer miss out on the ‘wonderful’ feeling of hatching another Pidgey. The devices will be able to switch networks without Pokemon GO crashing after the performance reliability upgrade.
Minor fixes aside, the only other change is support for the upcoming Pokemon GO Plus device, which has a release date since recently. And for any Apple fan who has been playing the popular title over the last couple months, Niantic have revealed their intention to release a companion app for Pokemon GO that will soon be available on the Apple Watch.
