Star Fox is The Most Uderrated Wii U Game – Says Miyamoto

Shigery Miyamoto and Bill Trinen named Star Fox Zero and Pikmin 3 as two of the most underrated Wii U titles in an interview at E3 2016.

With less than 13 million units sold, denying that the Wii U is, compared to its predecessor, a sales failure.

Despite the Wii U’s struggle to reason with the public, it features an impressive library of exclusive games and some would even dare argue that the Wii U has the best exclusives line up out of all consoles at the moment.

Though there are some exclusives that, just like the console, haven’t met expectations. One of those is Star Fox Zero, which according to the gaming legend Shigery Miyamoto is the most underrated game in the Wii U”s library.

Miyamoto said this in an interview at E3 2016. He basically stated that Star Fox Zeor hasn’t been given a fair shake (it released to mediocre reviews earlier this year) and if an elementary school child played it without having played other games in the series, they would have a lot of fun. Miyamoto also said that Star Fox Zero’s multiplayer is fun for siblings.

Unfortunately, most professional game critics don’t think the same way about Star Fox Zero as Miyamoto does. As already said, Star Fox Zero launched to mediocre reviews with critics aiming at the weird controls, lack of online multiplayer and terrible graphics.

Another overlooked Wii U exclusive, just like Star Fox Zero, is Pikmin 3, according to Nintendo’s senior product marketing manager Bill Trinen. He spoke highly of Pikmin 3’s Bingo Battle Mode and claimed that it’s the best multiplayer component Nintendo has designed since the Super Smash Bros series.

Miyamoto agreed that Pikmin 3 is underrated. He said that the reason behind this is that people don’t take enough time to play it like its meant to be played. Apparently, Pikmin 3 is meant to be played though multiple times in order to get the full effect. Miyamoto believes that people just play through it once and forget it exists.

Pikmin 3’s critical reception was much better than the one of Star Fox Zero as it was only called a failure because it wasn’t a major sales success. Nintendo hasn’t reported their sale figures in year but last time they checked, Pikmin 3 was 800,000 units away from 1 million units sold. These are disappointing numbers, even with Wii U’s low install base, but apparently it’s sold good enough for Nintendo to come with a fourth Pikmin game.
