Free Mythical Pokemon for July Has Been Revealed

The 20th Anniversary of Pokemon continues, as Nintendo adds another free mythical Pokemon in July that’s going to please fans of the series.

Earlier in the year, Nintendo has announced that it would offer one free mythical Pokemon every month until the end of 2016 as part of its yearly celebration of Pokemon’s 20-th anniversary and received high praise for it from worldwide trainers.

Up to this point, the giveaway has been successful, as favorites of the series like Mew and Celebi have already found new homes with lots of eager Pokemon fans. Now that the early summer onslaught of new game hype has passed and we’ve migrated to a July month that has already seen Canadian Pokemon fans getting creative with their love of the Nintendo franchise, now time has come for a new mythical Pokemon to find its way out.

Although these last couple of months of mythical releases might not have featured the favorites of many, July seems like it’s going to make up for it in a big way, as now fans can get the mythical hedgehog Shaymin by downloading it onto their Pokemon games.

Like always, gamers can obtain their new mythical Pokemon on either Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, Pokemon: Omega Ruby, or Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire by following a set of simple instructions, thoroughly described in last month’s Pokemon announcement. Like many mythical Pokemon, Shaymin cannot evolve, but has a nifty sky form that trainers can activate by using a Gracidea flower on the mystic hedgehog.

The release this month was also followed by the debut of the Pokemon TCG: Mythical Pokemon Collection Shaymin pack, which is available to buy now and contains a new Shaymin promo card with a pin of the fierce yet adorable hedgehog. It’s Nintendo’s masterful way of showing how they managed to deal with the first half of Pokemon’s 20th anniversary, a period of six months that didn’t feature much in the way of new releases.

Now that Nintendo has found a way to keep fans happy through the dry spell, things are shaping up nicely with Pokemon GO’s arrival in July, and Pokemon Sun and Moon not too far away down the road either.

Pokemon X/Y and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire are available on Nintendo 3Ds.
