When it comes to “Good versus Evil” in real-time strategy gaming, it’s difficult to get more “Good” than the followers of God, nor more “Evil” than the legions of Satan himself. Based on the best-selling novel series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins (also a film series starring Kirk Cameron), Left Behind: Eternal Forces is set during the Apocalypse foretold in the Book of Revelation, when the millions of righteous have suddenly vanished, taken up to Heaven, and the rest of us have been “left behind” to survive the forces of Hell that are taking over the world.
Although it involves no blood or gore, Eternal Forces offers plenty of destructive combat, involving both the supernatural powers of faith and modern military technology. A conventional “drag to select, right-click to deploy” interface is used to guide units around the maps and into battle. Combat takes place in familiar real-world locations; developers referred to photographs of almost 500 city blocks in their re-creation of New York.
