Blizzard has announced the release date for Overwatch’s next hero, Orisa, who will be available on live servers on March 21.
The next Overwatch hero, Orisa, will be released on March 21 across all supported platforms. Blizzard announced the release date of Orisa along with a newly released preview trailer. The trailer gives a behind-the-scene look at Blizzard’s design process for Orisa, her role in the Overwatch meta, and why the team is so excited for the quadruped robot. When Overwatch’s director, Jeff Kaplan, can’t stop smiling when explaining how fun Orisa is to play, it’s obvious that the developers have something special.
Blizzard has been keeping Orisa on the Overwatch Public Test Region for a long period of time compared to other characters added to the game post-launch due to worried about her balance. With Orisa’s role-playing “Anchor Tank,” a type of tank that a team can have around for protection, balancing her was a slight endeavor. If Blizzard makes either her defensive or offensive abilities too strong, she’ll certainly become a default pick.
Since her launch on the PTR on March 2, however, Orisa has only received two small changes. Her Fusion Driver’s magazine was reduced by about 25% and her Supercharger’s charge rate lowered by about 15%. Those nerfs are pretty big, but nothing overzealous, and although some in the Overwatch community still call her Orisa the Invincible, she’s seen as balanced even more – or at least as balanced as the other Overwatch heroes. The role of Orisa within the setting of Overwatch is also particularly interesting. First off, it’s quite clear that Blizzard decided they needed a hero to represent the Numbani map, which is a high-technology city within Africa.
Overwatch is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Orisa will be available on all platforms starting March 21.
