Final Fantasy 14 Stormblood Expansion Trailer Focuses On Samurai Class

Square Enix has released new details about Final Fantasy XIV’s upcoming expansion Stormblood, including a new trailer that focuses on the Samurai class.

Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest 2017 is in full swing right now in Frankfurt and Square Enix is using the event to release new information about the game’s upcoming Stormblood expansion, including a brand new trailer. The CG clip shows off the new Samurai class that’s coming with Stormblood this summer. On its Twitter account, Square Enix USA provided live commentary for those who were unable to travel to Germany for the event. Final Fantasy 14’s publisher and developer noted that Samurai will join the previously announced Red Mage class as another DPS job for the expansion.

Destructoid reports that although the Samurai is the main focus on the trailer, Square Enix also revealed couple of other new additions that will soon be coming to Final Fantasy 14. A new Eastern-themed region called Shirogane will be available for players to explore and a new player hub in the port town of Kugane. Stormblood will also introduce a new Beast Tribe called the Kojin, a new Primal named Susano and new dungeons including Yanxia and The Azim Steppe. Also revealed was the official box art for the Japanese release of the game, which was designed by Akihiko Yoshida.

Stormblood was first announced during another fan convention last year in Las Vegas and game director Naoki Yoshida noted at the time that when Stormblood arrives, it would mark more than just one transition for the game. Yoshida said that Square Enix would officially drop PlayStation 3 support for Final Fantasy 14 with the arrival of the new expansion and announced are being discussed with Sony to give PS3 owners the ability to transfer their account and characters to a PS4 version of the game for free. This news was most welcomed by fans, who have long felt that the PS3 version of the game was holding Final Fantasy 14 back from a design standpoint because it’s a lot less powerful system than the PlayStation 4 or a PC.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The Stormblood expansion will arrive in June 20, 2017.
