Forza Motorsport 7 Leaked by Fanatec

Wheel manufacturer Fanatec has leaked the development of Forza Motorsport 7, after a post on the company’s forums from CEO Thomas Jackermeier confirmed the game.

In general, the Forza Motorsport series is one of the crown jewels of Microsoft. The series developed by Turn 10 Studios is considered by many as the best racing franchise on the market, with Forza Motorsport 6 sitting as potentially the best Forza game to date. The fact that Forza Motorsport 7 exists, then, is not surprising – but what may surprise many is that confirmation of the game’s existence didn’t come from either Microsoft or Turn 10 Studios.

In fact, that honor has – perhaps accidentally – fallen to Thomas Jackermeier, the CEO of Fanatec. Jackermeier, whose company manufactures steering wheels for video games, posted on the Fanatec forums and effectively revealed that Forza Motorsport 7 is being developed. The CEO advised the forum members that he was having a meeting with Turn 10 Studios related to Forza Motorsport 7 and directly asked fans of Fanatec if they had any questions or issues they wished to be raised.

“I’m meeting with the team of Turn 10 this week and we’ll discuss couple of things we could do together for their next title of Forza Motorsport,” said Jackermeier in the post. “Please tell me if you have any issues related with wheel/pedal/shifter in FM6 and let us know what new features you would like to see supported in FM7.” Jackermeier signed off from the forums after that with “this is your chance to change something!”

It looks like wheel users should be optimistic about improved support in Forza Motorsport 7, too. Jackermeier came back to update his post after the meeting, and stated that “there is a good chance that a lot of things will change for the better in upcoming FM titles.” Furthermore, it sounds like Turn 10 Studios has a colleague in charge of “physics and force feedback” with real racing experience, and Jackermeier has stated that this person is “very familiar with PC simracing.”

This isn’t the first time that the Forza Motorsport series has suffered from a leak outside of information released by Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios, with Forza Motorsport 6 having its release date revealed by Amazon. Confirming the existence of an entire game is a little higher in the stakes, although a reveal of another game in this acclaimed is hardly surprising. Let’s hope that an official announcement from Microsoft or Turn 10 Studios is just around the corner.
