Extended gameplay footage of Friday the 13th: The Game has released, which shows off the game’s asymmetric multiplayer gameplay as camp counselors attempt to survive against Jason.
In the latest gameplay footage of Friday the 13th: The Game, players can be seen working together to try to survive against Jason Voorhees, the indestructible monster that has terrorized unfortunate teenagers for decades. As seen in the extended gameplay footage, it looks like communication will be crucial for players to survive, as they are left to their own devices in a rather large map called Higgins Haven. By communicating, they succeed in locating each other, forming a group, and can start scavenging for supplies to help them fight off Jason.
Players receive vague objectives to pursue that they can complete in various ways. In most cases, these objectives will be completed by finding necessary items like car keys, which can be used to escape the map in a car. Players will also be able to collect all sorts of weapons that can be used to temporarily stop Jason’s pursuit of them.
Those who watched the footage will note that it’s possible to leave the other survivors and let them die at Jason’s hands. At the end of the footage, we can see that one of the survivors winds up caught by Jason, and the other people playing can choose to abandon him instead of trying to free him from Jason’s grip. This potential to betray other survivors for one’s own benefit add an interesting difficulty to the asymmetric multiplayer dynamic.
Sadly, the new footage doesn’t really reveal much in the way of showing off Jason’s execution kills, which the hockey mask-wearing killer will use to murder camp counselors in creative ways. It does manage to secure Jason as a legitimate threat to the other players, though, as he’s basically immune to whatever they throw at him, and can kill counselors quite easily if he manages to get his hands on them.
Friday the 13th: The Game will be available in the first quarter of 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
