Regrettably for fans of couch co-op, For Honor game producer Stephane Cardin revealed that the game will not support split-screen as previously promised.
Couple of months ago, Ubisoft said that For Honor would support split-screen when it launched next February. Split-screen has unfortunately been removed from the product in order for developers to focus more on polishing the online multiplayer experience.
As stated by For Honor’s producer Stephanie Cardin, the decision to remove split-screen from the game was made just within the last week, and although it was a hard decision to make, he feels as though its removal will help the studio to make the game the best it can be.
As previously claimed, For Honor’s closed alpha response has been highly positive, and it was even the most played closed alpha in the history of Ubisoft. According to this data, it’s obvious that there are individuals with passion for the game, but it could be that some of those people will become less interested upon learning that split-screen has been removed after it was previously promised to players.
Only time will tell whether there will be serious backlash from this decision, but it might have been wise for Ubisoft to simply not reveal anything about the split-screen at all. If the company hasn’t promised the feature to be in the game in the first place, then this wouldn’t have been an issue. However, the company is currently at risk of alienating some consumers that were anticipating For Honor for its split-screen functionality.
Unfortunately, it seems that the split-screen feature is becoming rarer every year. Franchises like Halo that were prominently using the split-screen feature have left it by the wayside, and many new IP’s don’t have it at all. This is a trend that’s unfortunate for people that still enjoy couch co-op, and those people could be cancelling their For Honor pre-order once they hear the bad news.
For Honor is going to be available on February 14th, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
