Capcom has announced an all-new version of Street Fighter 2 for the Nintendo Switch, which is set to introduce two new characters and one new mode.
At least one iteration of Street Fighter 2 has been released for almost every console since the original arcade version debuted in 1991. However, its Ultra edition comes with complete content never before seen in the form of two new characters and one new gameplay mode. The new characters offer a slightly different take on Ryu and Ken, the two most distinct members of the game’s roster.
Evil Ryu represents the path the martial artist would have taken if he surrendered himself to the Satsui no Hado, the dark energy that acts as the source of Akuma’s power.
In the meantime, Violent Ken is an alternate version of Ryu’s rival who was caught by the villainous M. Bison and brainwashed. Therefore, he’s a much more aggressive and ruthless fighter than the standard characterization that fans are familiar with. A similar mode also appeared in the game similar to the fan favorite Dramatic Battle option in Street Fighter Alpha games. In it, two fighters can group together to take on a single opponent, according to a report from Gamespot.
Ultra Street Fighter 2 will feature the redrawn HD graphics that were used for 2008’s Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. However, players will also be able to change to the original pixel art graphics from that game’s initial release. Couple of days ago, leaked details of third-party Switch accessories revealed that Hori was preparing a fight stick for the console. As a result, many thought that some kind of fighting game would be shown at Nintendo’s event.
Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers is expected to arrive in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch.
