The Last of Us: Remastered Is Getting a HDR & PS4 Pro Patch

The Last of Us: Remastered from Naughty Dog gets an update that gives the game HDR visuals and prepares it for the upcoming release of the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Fans of The Last of Us: Remastered should have the ability to download and install Patch 1.07 now on their PlayStation 4 consoles. In addition, not only will those with HDR-capable televisions be able to immediately switch on the High Dynamic Range display feature and give The Last of Us: Remastered a graphical improvement, but also the update upgrades the game’s stereo audio quality.

Those who want to know how the HDR-enabled version of the Last of Us: Remastered looks like compared to the game without the feature can do so by taking a look at the images below. The first still with co-protagonist Ellie and the first still with the other main character of Joel represent the High Dynamic Range feature while switched off, however the pictures next to them will show the improvements.

As seen below, with HDR turned on, The Last of Us: Remastered’s areas and textures become much richer, as the shadows surrounding the clouds seem to be more pronounced and realistic. Plus, the depth and various colors definitely become much more noticeable once High Dynamic Range is enabled. It’s worth mentioning that although the fog in the pictures with Ellie make it little bit difficult to make out the sky, it’s clear that the update makes it look more realistic than in the original.

Of course, it must be pointed out that these The Last of Us: Remastered screenshots that were made possible with the PS4’s share button functionality are far away from what fans will experience on an actual HDR-capable TV. Nonetheless, while the difference is subtle, one can still make out the difference of variations being made between SDR and HDR in the game.

So, judging by the fact that The Last of Us: Remastered has joined the ranks of the PlayStation 4 Pro’s library of “forward compatible” games, it will be interesting to see if the title from Naughty Dog receives a resurgence in sales once the upgraded Sony console officially hits the store shelves. Naturally, it may be possible that The Last of Us: Remastered might not even make a blip on the charts again when one takes into account the large portion of the gaming community that already owns it. Furthermore, with new Triple-A games like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare coming out around the launch of  the PlayStation 4 Pro, the chance for The Last of Us: Remastered to make financial waves again is considerably reduced.

The Last of Us: Remastered is currently available for PlayStation 4, and Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro is scheduled to launch on November 10, 2016.
