In a recent update on the official PlayStation blog, President of Sony Shuhei Yoshida announced that the long-awaited The Last Guardian gets delayed from October to December.
Yoshida made an announcement on the official PlayStation blog that although Team Ico are “rapidly approaching major milestones” in the development of The Last Guardian, the team has “found more bugs than expected while in the last stage of development”.
Because of that, a hard decision was made to delay the release of the long-awaited game by couple of weeks, from October 25 to December 6. This latest delay is yet another complication in a game where the creator himself admitted that the long process of development was “totally unexpected”, but this might end up as a blessing in disguise.
Just a few months ago, a number of reports surfaced that the E3 2016 demo of The Last Guardian was absolutely underwhelming due to a couple of gameplay and graphical issues. Those few additional weeks of polish will be crucial for ironing out any problems that were noted by journalists, and judging by the new batch of beautiful screenshots that were released just a few weeks ago, it seems that Team Ico has already been using all the recent feedback to perfect the game.
At this stage in The Last Guardian’s development cycle, a few weeks delay is far from a dealbreaker and not all that uncommon – not long ago, the similarly long-developed Final Fantasy 15 got postponed once more for some additional polishing time. Given that the recent E3 demo of The Last Guardian didn’t exactly amazed audiences, also the fact that the game has the unenviable task of living up to Team Ico’s previous two games, the critically acclaimed Ico and Shadow of the Collosus, only good can come out of this delay for a game that’s been hyped as one of 2016’s most anticipated games.
