“The King” by Sony Brings PS4 Exclusives to Life With its Trailer

Sony releases a new commercial for its PlayStation 4 system that features appearances by upcoming PS4 exclusive characters like God of War and Spider-Man.

Ever since the original PS days, Sony are known for their unique marketing campaigns. From the Kevin Butler ads to the Memorable ‘For Michael!’ campaign, Sony knows how to sell a console to the general public. The latest marketing effort comes in the form of a commercial called “The King” and it features higher production values that effectively bring some of PS4’s biggest exclusive games to life.

The commercial from Sony features cameo appearances by video game characters, as well as references to their games. It mainly features PS4 exclusive titles, with appearances from Kratos – God of War and Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn. The end of the commercial features an appearance from Spider-Man, who isn’t a Sony created character but he is featured in an exclusive upcoming PS4 title from Insomniac.

The trailer highlights other games besides the PS4 exclusives, like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare for example. However, it’s worth noting that even though call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is a release that goes on multiple platforms, the DLC will be on PS4 first, with Xbox One and PC having to wait 30 days to try out the new maps. Even though it’s not only a PS4 exclusive, Infinite Warfare favors PS4 over other platforms.

If by any chance Mass Effect: Andromeda gets a PS4 Exclusive, it would be a departure from franchise norm. Before, the Mass Effect series favored Xbox, with the original game once an Xbox 360 exclusive. EA’s relationship with Microsoft is better than its relationship with Sony in general.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will not release until the first quarter of 2017, so there is still plenty of time for EA or Sony to reveal that the game will have PS4 exclusives. Even if it doesn’t get a PS4 exclusive, having the game in this commercial makes sense, as a few people would argue that the Mass Effect: Andromeda is one of next year’s most anticipated titles.
