Regardless of the many delays, developer Bethesda has officially announced mod support on the PlayStation 4 for their games Skyrim: Special Edition and Fallout 4.
A month ago, Bethesda said that there will be no PS4 mod support for Fallout 4 and Skyrim: Special Edition until Sony allowed them to offer proper mod support for the console. Now it looks like the Japanese tech corporation has given Bethesda the necessary tools for making the feature happen on the PS4, as Bethesda has now announced that both of the games will get mod support on the PS4.
An official Bethesda blog stated that, besides Skyrim: Special Edition and Fallout 4 getting mods on the PS4, there are developers who plan on supporting the new PlayStation 4 Pro with both of the titles, rendering the final releases in native 4K.
While the news are exciting for PS4 fans who wanted mods on the console, it’s important to say that people won’t be able to upload external assets with the PS4 mods. With that being said, fans will be able to use assets that come with the game, as other mods do.
For anyone unaware, Bethesda has an uphill struggle when it comes to getting Fallout 4 mods ready for current gen consoles, but making the feature work for PS4 is far more troublesome than it is on the Xbox One. Behind a disappointing size limit, mods for the post apocalyptic RPG on the Microsoft system have had a few hangups. As far as Sony’s console is concerned, during the initial stages of developing mods for PS4, Bethesda encountered a lot of issues related to memory, performance and audio, which lead to major delays.
Bethesda will confirm that PS4 mods are now on the way for Fallout 4 and Skyrim: Special Edition, and that will happen sooner than anyone expects. As that is the case, Bethesda can now focus on it’s two new unannounced games it’s working on.
