Silent Hill: Downpour Now Playable On Xbox One Via Backward Compatibility

Microsoft’s Major Nelson announced three more games for the list of Xbox 360 titles compatible with Xbox One, including Silent Hill: Downpour and Puzzle Quest.

Silent Hill: Downpour is currently playable on Xbox One. The game tells the story of Murphy Pendleton, whose prison transport vehicle suddenly wrecks in the twisted town of Silent Hill. Similar to previous games in the series, players explore the town’s “true” form, as well as its alternate dimension, which is a lot more dangerous. The gameplay of Silent Hill: Downpour is much like a classic Silent Hill game for the most part, but packs some unique tricks as well, including a dynamic weather system and side quests.

Reviewers called Silent Hill: Downpour “haunting and engrossing,” but mentioned that it does have some technical issues that hold it back from reaching its full potential. Nonetheless, a number of Xbox 360 games run better on Xbox One, so there’s a possibility that people playing Downpout on Microsoft’s current-gen console will run better with less framerate problems.

Silent Hill: Downpour isn’t the only game that Microsoft recently added to the backward compatibility list. It’s teamed up with Puzzle Quest, which had very good reviews at the time of its original release, as well as the video game parody Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. Eat Lead is a third-person shooter that ridicules various video game cliches, and also takes aim at certain games, including Duke Nukem and Final Fantasy. It wasn’t quite the critical darling, but most of the critics praised its humor, so it might be worth checking out for Xbox one owners looking for a good laugh.

At the speed Microsoft has been adding games to the backward compatibility list, Xbox One gamers may be able to expect more games to join Silent Hill: Downpour, Puzzle Quest, and Eat Lead at the end of this month. Since it’s Halloween season, let’s hope that more Xbox 360 horror titles will be added to the service this month, like the Silent Hill HD collection, for example.
