Rumors for Marvel vs. Capcom 4 Denied by the Developer

A Marvel vs. Capcom 3 producers shares information on Twitter that there are no plans for Marvel vs. Capcom 4, despite he and his team’s desire to see it happen.

Fans of fighting games have received some strong titles recently, including Mortal Kombat X and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, but there is one franchise that a lot of gamers are interested in seeing more from Marvel vs. Capcom. It’s been five years since the latest Marvel vs. Capcom title, and a lot of gamers have been speculating about Marvel vs. Capcom for a few months now.

Unfortunately, it looks like another title in the Marvel vs. Capcom series in a ways away, if one is to even happen at all. It seems gamers have been asking about another sequel to the franchise so much, that a producer for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 spoke out via Twitter to let fans know there’s nothing in the works at the moment.

Ryota Niitsuma, the producer of Marvel vs. Capcom went on to thank fans for their dedication and interest in a sequel to the popular fighting game series. He noted he would love to see the game come to life, but that there is nothing happening on that front at the moment. And if history is any guide, gamers likely won’t see much on Marvel vs. Capcom for many years.

It took around 11 years for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to come out after the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Part of the time delay was a switch from 2D graphics to 3D, but as most gamers would expect, such technical changes don’t require a decade to complete. Rather, it looks like the licensing took some time to complete.

There is no doubt that a great deal needs to be negotiated when it comes to the many characters that are included in the crossover game. With the success Marvel has been the last few years, it could be even harder now to license the top characters for a Marvel vs. Capcom game that it was in 2011 for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. With that in mind, and with the Marvel brand in particular expanding rapidly, there may never be another Marvel vs. Capcom game anytime soon.

With that being said, the possibility for another Marvel vs. Capcom game depends heavily on Marvel’s team and their willingness to license out the brand. Telltale Games is working on a Marvel game, which recently confirmed to feature Guardians of the Galaxy, so there definitely seems to be some opportunity when it comes to using the brand in games.
