A recent rumor is suggesting that Ubisoft works on a new Splinter Cell title and brings back veteran voice actor Michael Ironside to lend his voice to lead character Sam Fisher.
Things have been rather quiet for Sam Fisher and the Splinter Cell franchise since his mission back in 2013. After Splinter Cell Blacklist’s generally well received launch, a new generation of consoles in the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launched, and other well-known Ubisoft franchises have continued to release all without any news on where the stealth-action franchise was heading.
If the recent rumors revealed by NeoGaf user Crossing Eden are to be believed, fans might not have to wait too long for news on Sam Fisher.
According to the report, Michael Ironside, longtime Sam Fisher voice actor was seen at Ubisoft Toronto last summer alongside his family. Featuring one of the latest motion capture studio, the studio in Toronto took over as lead developer of the previous entry in the series, Splinter Cell Blacklist. Contacts with knowledge of Ubisoft projects have told Crossing Eden that Ironside confirmed he started to work on a new Splinter Cell title at Ubisoft, which was scheduled to begin after shooting wrapped up on a movie he worked on at that time in Toronto.
The contact also showed disappointment that a trailer wasn’t revealed at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference this year, although having not seen any assets from the potential game could specify that it’s only early in development.
Although this might come as exciting news to longtime fans of the franchise, as always with these sort of things, until an official confirmation by Ubisoft is given, fans should take the news with a grain of salt. What’s strange about this rumor is the fact that Ironside himself handed the role of Sam Fisher to Eric Johnson, because of the physical nature that the performance captured required. While it’s certainly possible Ironside could have second thoughts about the role, the same restrictions over mocap would still be present however.
