New Gears of War 4 Trailer Reveals Horde Mode 3.0

Microsoft revealed the first trailer for the revamped Horde 3.0 mode in Gears of War 4 which shows off classic based combat with new twists like characters.

Known as Horde 3.0, the new presentation of Gears of War 4’s fan favorite mode mixes traditional gameplay with a small number of new wrinkles to help freshen up the experience. The premise will be instantly recognized by longtime players, as it hasn’t changed.

Five players will be working together to survive 50 waves of progressively difficult enemies, as well as boss waves that arrive at every 10 rounds. The group will fight against the previously revealed swarm monsters and the robotic DeeBees, essentially making this a human versus non-human battle.

Taking example from the Survival and Overrun modes in Gears of War: Judgement, Horde 3.0 now features specific classes such as Soldier, Sniper, Scout, Heavy and Engineer, each with a customizable loadout. Further options will be available for players to customize their character through the use of cards which are unlocked by earning Gear Packs like the one included in the pre-order bonuses. Cards extend from modifiers like damage boost or ammunition increase, to other Horde specific abilities and items.

The trailer also features the musical stylings of Run the Jewels, as well as revealing a brief look at the new Fabricator tool. Players will be able to use this device in order to create and set down defenses, turrets, and weapons, pretty much where ever they want on the map.

Even though Gears of War 4 will be giving out free map DLC each month after the game launches thanks to microtransactions similar to Halo 5: Guardians, players won’t be able to access every map they want, when they want. Instead, The Coalition is going to rotate maps in and out, except for those players that own a season pass or ultimate edition as then they have complete access to each and every map.

Gears of War 4 will launch on Xbox One and PC on October 11, 2016.
