A surprise demo of Bandai Namco’s upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle appeared at New York Comic-Con and is given an official announcement and trailer.
Following this announcement, a variety of news outlets tried to reach out to Bandai Namco for answers, which led to a confirmation by the company that, obviously, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle was officially being worked on. The company also released a trailer that features some of the gameplay and just how closely the game is associated with the original Saban television show.
The trailer looks, sounds, and feels like a commercial for the show; even narrated by Power Ranger mentor Zondor. The original five teenagers make an appearance with attitude, including the Green Ranger for good measure. Players will be fighting against classic villains such as Rita Repulda and, as hinted by the trailer, Lord Zed.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle will feature local co-op as well as levels and enemies inspired by the television show. The art style is crisp, clean 2D animation style, which suits the Power Rangers universe well.
While the majority of the game seems to be the standard beat-em-up formula – linear level progression and the endless beating of enemies – characters are also able to call their Zords to give them a hand in boss battles. How will these gigantic monster battles play out is unknown at this time, but thankfully, some video from fan site Power Rangers Now, a short video clip from within the demo booth shows the controls that make up the majority of the gameplay.
As for the moves, the basic block, throw, and dodge roll are all there. Additionally, players can change weapons, initiate a ranged attack and, most of all, morph Rangers into their more powerful forms – i.e. the colorful, spandex outfits.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle is scheduled to launch sometime in January 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
