Gears of War 4 Will Get Legacy Maps in November

The Coalition reveals the first two free DLC maps for Gears of War 3 as legacy maps first seen in Gears of War 3 and players can play them in November.

The Coalition has ambitious plans when it comes to the post launch support for Gears of War 4. For the future, fans of Gears of War 4 can look forward to two new maps added in the game every second month, which will ensure that enthusiasts consistently have new content to enjoy. November’s maps have been detailed and they will be known to those who have played Gears of War 3’s multiplayer.

Since the first of November, Gears of War 3 season pass holders will have access into Checkout and Drydock, two maps that first appeared in Gears of War 3. A week later, on November 8th, Checkout and Drydock will be added to the public playlist rotation, an effort by The Coalition to keep the Gears 4 community from splintering with new maps.

Players who aren’t interested in Gears of War 4’s multiplayer mode will still benefit from the new maps. However, not only Checkout and Drydock will be used in multiplayer, but also the maps will be compatible with Horde 3.0, which will give all Gears of War 4 players a thing to look forward to when the maps release in November.

In a nutshell, season pass holders for Gears of War 4 have permanent access to new maps, where the general public will lose them if they are pulled from rotation. So, Gears 4 season pass owners are able to select the maps for private matches and playlist, which isn’t possible for players that just own the base game. Season pass owners enjoy benefits as well, such as early access to new maps and game modes before they become available to everyone else, in addition to exclusive skins.

Now, it’s hard to say whether those benefits are enough to justify the price of the season pass, but a lot of people would prefer that maps are available to everyone. There is a model that ensures multiplayer communities aren’t splintered when new maps are brought into the game, and it has helped online multiplayer games such as Halo 5: Guardians and Overwatch thrive.

Gears of War 4 can be obtained for PC and Xbox One.
