Bethesda has teased an upcoming free update coming to Doom which adds new features such as private matches, and a free-for-all style multiplayer Deathmatch.
Known as Free Update 3, DOOM’s upcoming content pack will finally bring with it a highly requested mode: Free-for-All Deathmatch. Additionally, players will finally be able to access private matches, allowing them to not only set the maps and modes that appear, but to also change other settings.
Hosts can modify everything from the score or time limit values, to even switching off some features as well, like the demon rune or power weapons spawn.
Along with the livestream tease which provides a glimpse of the new content, more info soon followed and teased the addition of another brand new mode that focuses on the campaign. Although details about the mode are scarce, Arcade mode is scheduled to release in another free update later this fall. Speculations about this mode adding some kind of scoring system to the campaign are already underway, forcing players to achieve more points for speed and kills instead of focusing on the story and cut scenes.
Players who are interested on seeing these new modes in action should tune into Bethesda’s Twitch channel on Tuesday, September 13, at 2PM ET. The reveal stream will feature id Software’s Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin showcasing the new features and modes coming for free to the game. Other than the custom Doom themed Xbox One giveaway, players can also expect to see one more tease aside from that mysterious new Arcade mode coming later this year as well.
At this year’s E3, Bethesda outlined that this update will join an already impressive list of post-launch support for DOOM. Fans have already seen major updates and enhancements to the game since its launch. Most of these updates were free like a dedicated photo mode, many SnapMap enhancements and content additions, alongside various fixes and improvements to the fast-paced multiplayer.
