Destiny’s Next Update Sets the Road for Rise of Iron

The content that Bungie has detailed in the next game update for Destiny, will prepare the game for the upcoming fall expansion, Rise of Iron.

The month of Rise of Iron, Destiny’s next major expansion, is finally upon us, and with less than 20 days to go, Bungie is starting to prepare its game for the changes and content that will come in Rise of Iron. The first step is Update 2.4.0

Destiny’s servers will be down for maintenance on September 8, between 8 a.m and 4.pm Pacific time. After the maintenance is down, Update 2.4.0 will be available for download. Mostly, the update is just prep work, but there a few things that will visibly change.

Players’ clan tags will be invisible during in-game play after Update 2.4.0. Bungie will turn clan features off in Destiny as they rework the implementation of Clan Rosters in Rise of Iron. Clan tags won’t return to players’ nameplates until Bungie turns clans back on, which could be after Rise of Iron launches. Players will still be in their clans, and will be able to use clan pages on Bungie.net, but clan tags in Destiny will be unavailable.

After Update 2.4.0, players will be able to earn only one Sterling Treasure box weekly. They can do this by completing Level 41-Prison of Elders. The item will be removed from other activities as well, also from Eververse. Radiant Treasure is the name of the item that will replace Sterling Treasure in Rise of Iron and it will drop ornaments and a new currency called Silver Dust.

Fans should be aware of the fact that Destiny will be down for 8 hours on September 8. The Destiny Companion app and Bungie.net app functionality will be limited. This also goes for any third party app or extension that use the Destiny API, such as Destiny Item Manager or Ishtar Commander.
