DICE talks about plans for Battlefield 1, including a change to monthly versus seasonal updates, and offers an early look at the In The Name Of The Tsar expansion.
DICE has published a news story titled “The Road Ahead For Battlefield 1,” which talks about a shift to monthly updates rather than seasonal and teases the In The Name Of The Tsar expansion. Battlefield 1 is coming off of the launch of its first four major expansions, They Shall Not Pass, which launched mid-March. The Spring Update is next in line for the multiplayer shooter, featuring the much-anticipated Platoon system. But the Spring Update’s just the beginning.
Starting with the Spring Update, Battlefield 1 will change from a seasonal update system to a monthly one. The implication is that the Spring Update will launch in April, followed by the first monthly update being the May Update. Spring focuses on Platoons, an in-game clan system for mini-communities, with ranks, tags, and emblems. DICE did mention what May will focus on, too, which will be quality of life changes. That includes “streamlining the flow into matches” and balance fixes.
In The Name Of The Tsar, the second major Battlefield 1 expansion, was also discussed and teased. Naturally, new maps, weapons, vehicles, and game modes will also be introduced. DICE doesn’t have any concrete details to share with regards to specific content.
In addition, three concept images connected to the In The Name Of The Tsar expansion were shared as part of the post. Like previous Battlefield 1 teasers, each of the images is probably tied to a central facet of a map. A convoy is sown on the first image, a truck guarded by horsemen while fighter planes scream by overhead. The second image shows a speed boat storming up-river while hidden long-range artillery targets a larger ship in the distance. And the final image shows a well-armored, turreted train that likely needs to be bombed. And all three maps feature endless snow. After all, this is the Eastern Front.
Battlefield 1 is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
