The Elder Scrolls 6 Isn’t Getting Developed Yet

Bethesda says that The Elder Scrolls 6 is not currently in development, even though they confirmed it at this year’s E3.

Bethesda’s Skyrim was nothing less than a major success, With over 20 million copies sold since its release in 2011, it was more than certain that the follow up title was going to happen soon after Skyrim’s release. They confirmed The Elder Scrolls 6 at this year’s E3, though no details were discussed about any expectations of the game. Everything is changed now, as a tweet from Bethesda’s VP of PR and marketing, Pete Hines said, the fans will have some waiting to do before they get to return to Tamriel.

Hines was asked by a gamer if the two unannounced projects by Bethesda will take their focus away from The Elder Scrolls 6. He replied that Bethesda’s development team isn’t currently working on the title.

Pete Hines’ tweet isn’t exactly clear, and ‘we aren’t working on The Elder Scrolls 6 at the moment” could mean a lot of things. There is also a possibility that pre-production work on Elder Scrolls 6 is underway, even though full production hasn’t started yet. Pre-production work on a game begins sometime before full production, so it’s possible that a small amount of work has been done on The Elder Scrolls 6. This hasn’t been confirmed, nor denied by Pete Hines.

Players will get to revisit Tamriel this year, through the upcoming Skyrim: Special Edition. The remaster of Skyrim, announced alongside The Elder Scrolls 6 at E3, will have a bunch of graphical improvements and extra features, such as mod support for consoles. Bethesda is aiming to make Skyrim: Special Edition a ‘next gen’ experience, so this might mean that everyone who plays it will have an idea about what the next Elder Scrolls game might look and feel like.

There is modding project for everyone who wants to experience Tamriel without going through Skyrim. It is called Beyond Skyrim and it’s developed as a large team modding project. This fan made expansion aims to implement all of Tamriel and it will introduce the world of Skyrim to six new locations. A release date for Beyond Skyrim hasn’t been announced yet but it definitely will come out before The Elder Scrolls 6 does.
