A Korean news site, iNews 24 has reported that Blizzard’s classic RTS game StarCraft will receive a HD remaster, with more details to come this year.
If iNews24, a Korean news site is to be believed, the next project from Blizzard might actually be a return to one of the company’s most celebrated titles, in the form of a StarCraft HD remaster.
According to iNews24, StarCraft’s HD remaster will have the original game’s gameplay, but will also receive updated graphics and a reworked user interface – most likely one more in line with StarCraft II. Additional details on the alleged StarCraft HD remaster are not present at this time, but it is said that the game’s official announcement may come as soon as September.
The World Championship Series in StarCraft II are scheduled to take place from September 10th to 11th in Mexico City, so the announcement could happen then. From there, Blizzard should offer more concrete details on the StarCraft HD remaster at BlizzCon 2016 in November. Right now, fans are expecting to learn about any possible new features StarCraft HD is going to bring, and what platforms the remaster will be accessible on.
To anyone familiar with the franchise, it’s clear that if the StarCraft HD remaster does exist, it will arrive on PC, at the very least. Although, Blizzard’s success with Diablo III and Overwatch on PS4 and Xbox One might mean that the company wants to give consoles a chance as well. As some may remember, the original StarCraft actually had a console version for Nintendo 64, so if the remaster arrives on modern consoles, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising.
But for now, that’s just speculation, and fans of StarCraft shouldn’t expect things to happen without any further info. There’s a possibility that the game is not even in development, so it’s better to wait for an official announcement from Blizzard before getting their hopes up. Fortunately, if iNews24’s information is true, that announcement could get here as nearly as next month.
