As stated by the game director Jeff Kaplan in a new comment on the Overwatch subreddit, Blizzard plans on nerfing Torbjorn’s turret damage for the PS4 and Xbox One next month.
With the release of Overwatch last month, millions of players had plenty of time to get involved in Blizzard’s newest first-person shooter. Although Blizzard did an amazing job on crafting the current 21 character roster, some balance issues regarding specific heroes have appeared, especially McCree and Widowmaker.
Judging by the depth of available characters as well as the skill difference between PC and console players, some balancing problems were bound to happen in Overwatch, and it seems that Blizzard has decided which hero is going to be nerfed next.
Back at Overwatch’s subreddit, there has been countless discussion threads that set apart Torbjorn and his turrets for being overpowered on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and that its causing some issues regarding how matches play out. Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan recently responded on a Torbjorn thread, stating that Blizzard plans to reduce the character’s turret damage by 30% on consoles mid to late July. The character and his turrets will remain untouched for PC players.
For most of the Ovewatch players on consoles, this announcement from Blizzard regarding Torbjorn’s turrets nerf isn’t too surprising. Few weeks ago, the Master Overwatch fan site gathered the win-loss data for all of the game’s 21 heroes, and it showed that Torbjorn and his turrets have an overall win rate of 61.6%, which puts this hero at number two on the best performing list.
To address the issue with Torbjorn in such a timely manner is yet another demonstration of Blizzard’s ongoing post-launch renowned support, and it couldn’t come at a more timely manner as competitive play mode in Overwatch is due to be released very soon.
Overwatch is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
