Overhauled Evolve Will Be Free-to-Play on PC

The co-founders of Turtle Rock Studios, Chris Ashton and Phill Robb have announced that the 4v1 asymmetrical shooter Evolve is going to be overhauled and will permanently be free to play.

Evolve was one of the most anticipated games before its release. This was mostly thanks to it appearing at trade shows and beta testing periods. Unfortunately, that momentum was gone due to horrible reviews, something that fans saw just as a DLC and a population that quickly declined it after launch. Turtle Rock Studios, not being satisfied with this, announced a huge overhaul and permanent change of prices.

“The magic has to get back and we aim to make this happen! A lot of changes have been made, both additions and improvements over the past year and there is a lot more coming. Long story short, the game will receive a huge overhaul.”

Co-founders Chris Ashton and Phil Robb detailed some of the major changes that are coming to Evolve in a recent post to the fan base of Evolve. They looked back at the pre-launch promise the title had with it and how the team is going to recapture that same feeling. The first step involves massive updates and changes centered around improving the UI and stability of the game. This will shorten load times and it will give fans more customization options, overhauling the progression system and fixing bugs. The final step to improving Evolve is the one where Turtle Rock completely reworks the Hunter class to make it more valuable to the team.

PC gamers will get the biggest change, as the game will be completely and permanently free-to-play, starting since today as it relaunches under beta status. Turtle Rock Studios hopes that players will flood the game and allow the studio to put a new server up, making the game a better experience in the long run. Players who have already purchased the game will receive a ‘Founder’ status and get gifts, rewards and special access as a way of saying thank you for having trust in the game.
