Most of the Team at Bungie Working on Destiny 2

Activision has revealed that most of Bungie’s employees are right now working on the follow-up to its sci-fi shooter with Destiny 2.

Although most fans would expect that the majority of Bungie is focusing on the development of Destiny’s upcoming Rise of Iron expansion, Activision has officially announced that’s not going to be the case. In truth, during the game publisher’s most recent earnings call, it was revealed that the larger part of the studio’s employees are currently hard at work on the sequel to its action RPG with Destiny 2.

As seen in the tweet below, the discovery comes from Jason Schreier, a Kotaku news editor who happened to be covering Activision’s earnings call at the time of the announcement. Still, no extra details about the status of Bungie’s actual progress on Destiny 2 have been revealed, nor has it officially been confirmed if that particular title will even be used as the final name for the sequel.

Although this definitely seems great for Destiny fans, it’s worth noting that beyond the recently declared knowledge of the bulk of Bungie working on the game’s follow-up, solid specifics about the title are minimal. Nevertheless, one piece of information that’s been confirmed earlier by the studio is that the sequel will get a release date in 2017.

Aside from Activision’s and Bungie’s official statements made about Destiny 2 at previous junctures, the Internet’s speculation is extensive about what the next installment in the franchise will contain. For example, an anonymous source spoke with Kotaku in the past to share a rumor that the game is a reboot with The Taken King director Luke Smith which has taken control over the development. There’s also a rumor about what the actual title of the follow-up could be, with a leak that’s pointing to the possibility of Bungie giving it the name Beyond Destiny.

The next big project from Bungie is its Rise of Iron expansion, which launches on September 20, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
