Kongregate and Fox have announced the Hearthstone-style mobile game Animation Throwdown: The Quest for Cards which will feature characters from Family Guy, Futurama, and more.
In the past decade and a half, Fox has looked to make profit from the success of its animated television shows by creating video game spin-offs. In 2012, Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse was released, Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff saw mobile gamers restore Quahog in 2014 and futuristic comedy Futurama has also received a spin-off of its own in 2003.
Actually, Fox characters have even appeared in other popular video games, with characters of The Simpsons being added to Minecraft.
Following the video game spin-offs in Fox is a game that features characters from some of its hit animated TV shows, rather than a game that’s focusing itself on one show. Known as Animation Throwdown: The Quest for Cards, it’s described as a new collectible-card mobile game.
Five different Fox shows have been revealed by Kongregate that will be featured in The Quest for Cards, together with Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, King of the Hill, Futurama and American Dad! Sadly The Simpsons won’t be included in the game, most likely because the show already has it’s own card game in The Simpsons: Tapped Out that’s published by EA.
The Executive Vice-President of Fox Digital Entertainment, Rich Phillips, explained that in Animation Throwdown, Peter Griffin will duke it out with Bob Belcher, or Leela, or even Hank Hill. Fans get to choose their all-star lineup in this inventive, genre-bending game. Players will have the ability to create ultimate show-themed decks and compete against their friends, and Kongregate added also that Animation Throwdown draws inspiration by combining the most popular gameplay elements of [Synapse and Chinzilla’s] titles into a single franchise.
Animation Throwdown: The Quest for Cards will be released on Android and iOS devices in Q3 2016.
