After the release of Overwatch, Blizzard currently has a number of job openings available, all related to an unknown Diablo project.
Released earlier in 2012, Diablo 3 had a notorious development process that was going on for over a decade and involved at least three substantial revisions. Granted that Blizzard isn’t exactly a large studio with several teams that can work on its different properties, and the fact that Overwatch has recently been released, seems that it will take a while before we see a follow-up to Diablo 3. However, based on the new number of openings at Blizzard, it looks like fans won’t have to wait over a decade for a new Diablo game.
On Blizzard’s career page, the developer has listed a number of job openings related to an unannounced Diablo project. Nothing is revealed in the job descriptions, but based on the events that recently happened, these openings could have a different meaning. Given that Blizzard has kept Diablo 3 updated with some substantial post-launch content, the simple answer is that the developer simply wants to boost its current team.
Interestingly enough, one of the job openings available is for the role of Game Director, although this doesn’t mean a new Diablo is being developed. Not long ago, the lead director of Diablo Josh Mosqueria has left Blizzard, so this opening could simply be a replacement for Mosqueria.
With that said, some other Diablo openings available include a senior animator, a senior character artist, and a senior VFX artist, all of which hints that Blizzard at least works on something new for Diablo. If this new Diablo project is a brand new game or a Diablo 3 content update remains to be seen.
Given that Diablo is one of the many popular games currently being worked on by Blizzard, fans shouldn’t expect much news on that subject any time soon. We’ll keep you updated with any news related to Blizzard and Diablo.
